I remember the Phone and the fridge arriving in our house, soon followed by the washing machine, and electric cooker. Soon the electric kettle,toaster and microwave appeared [even went to night class to learn how to use it!]We no longer needed the larder for the meat and the pantry for the bread. My brother's dish washer has replaced his sink and scullery! But we are old fashioned.
My neighbours, all with more money than sense, don't bother cooking any longer!
For, within a dozen of so metres [formerly known as yards] are 1 greasy spoon, 4 Chipshops,5 Pubs, a Pizzeria, Chinese and Indian Takeaways, a Sikh temple and a smart Italian Restaurant: not counting the nearby MacDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and Subway sandwiches.
These establishments all serve industrial food even the chips come ready to drop into the oil.
I wonder if the girls in the third world are busy peeling all those potatoes?
The menus are cooked according to a formula - a tin of this and a packet of that resulting in even the chefs do not cook like momma
Again we humans have "painted ourselves into a corner" with our cleverness. Who now is going to show the world how to cook like our ancestors?
Cooking is a spectator sport - every single day on terrestrial TV - The couch potatoes waiting for the delivery van to bring them their supplies of beer and crisps.
