We do not find it necessary to heat up stairs rooms as the bed is electrically heated. The blankets and eiderdowns of my childhood have gone. The hot water bottle only used now for stomach or back ache.The bath is in great danger of disappearing too especially if a meter is fitted to the water main.
Many houses only have a wash basin shower and toilet - usually ensuite to the bedroom.
My mothers house seemed to have family photos on every flat surface.
Looking around my house the radio, recordplayer [radiogram] tape recorder, video, television have all gone too. These large items of furniture crowded our home. They have been replaced by the large screen fixed to the chimney breast. ALL our family pictures have now become a screen saver.
Changing from its radio function to a spread sheet only needs a word of command.
This multifunction device, that has removed much of mother's furniture gives a minimal almost Japanese, quality to our home.
By contrast some things have become much larger. The online FridgeFreezer holds all the ready meals and re-ordering when needed - eliminating the kitchen cupboards. The Large microwave is powerfully equipped, to reheat those ready meals, completely replacing the old cooker. A trash disposal unit deals with all the plastic bottles and cups, tins,trays and packing, so no bin and no sink any more.
Unless one likes a lot of living room it is quite feasible to see apartments reducing in size as the amount of furniture dwindles. Even the Table has gone as everyone eats separately now, sitting on the well advertised sofa watching frenetic advertising for New Kitchens and those incessant Cooking Programmes. Perhaps the former is a new form of decorative status symbol and the latter sheer entertainment.
